About Doctor Adelia

Dr. Adelia specializes in working with children and adolescents with a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns. These include anxiety disorders (Selective Mutism, Separation Anxiety, and Specific Phobias), ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, peer issues, and life transitions. Dr. Adelia’s primary approach is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), although she often integrates CBT with other evidence-based treatments. Dr. Adelia also incorporates virtual reality and other interactive tools to help her clients overcome their difficulties.

Dr. Adelia is recognized by PCIT International as a Certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Therapist. She is also a trained provider in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), a parent-based treatment for children and adolescents with anxiety.

Dr. Adelia is an active member of the Selective Mutism Association and Maryland Psychological Association. She has received specialized training in PCIT-SM. Dr. Adelia has also served as a younger classroom teacher at an intensive summer camp for children with Selective Mutism over the past four years, during which she has supervised dozens of graduate students, clinicians, and professionals on PCIT-SM skills. Lastly, Dr. Adelia is passionate about spreading awareness and understanding of selective mutism to support children effectively. Dr. Adelia has developed PCIT-SM comic strips to display skills to providers, teachers, and adults in an easy-to-understand manner.

Prior to becoming a clinical psychologist, Dr. Adelia earned her undergraduate degree from Emory University. She received both her Masters and Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Dr. Adelia completed her postdoctoral fellowship and continued on as Staff Psychologist at The Sheppard Pratt School where she provided individual and group therapy, parent consultation, and care coordination within a multidisciplinary team.
